Father is very pleased with the progress of the school and will send pictures of the
landscaping and bus as soon as he can. He wants to thank everyone for their continued
support. The Bishop has transferred Father’s responsibilities to being the priest of Awaso!
This is an answer to prayer and will allow Father to be at the school more and involved with
the students and community all the time. This new assignment is effective immediately but
the paperwork has not been done yet. Awaso is a mission church of the parish of Bekwai so
he will have assistance from Bekwai also which is even better.
Financially he is out of money for capital and operational expenses. The last amount sent
was used for the bus to make up the difference in cost as well as have the necessary body
work and painting done. The financial statements and receipts have been sent to Wayne.
(Wayne confirmed that he received them.)
The school held its first Christmas concert and Father was so impressed. The children all
spoke very good English and the parents were overjoyed. The staff is happy and he has
been interviewing for a new teacher next year.
The Morgan Hill group plans to finish the residence on the school property this summer and
that is where their fundraising is allocated. The Morgan Hill group are preparing a Master Plan
of the school property with the help of Father Paul and it should be ready next month.
Father Paul is working on the operating budget and advises that the air conditioners are
operating and the networking for the computers is in progress. The t-bar ceiling in the
computer lab needs to be completed once the cabling is done. He is waiting for the chairs and
tables for the library that were purchased.
The parking lot is now completed with hand made paving blocks , with the lines for parking in
different color blocks. It looks very nice and the grass around the school is very green. Being
the dry season the rest of the ground is dry and brown but the school grounds are still green.
They have some orange trees that are good “canopy” trees for the children to sit outside. The
road to the school is not done and but Father did do a “rehabilitation” with a grader and
contour the ditches so water can run down the ditch. We need culverts though before the
next rainy season. When petrol prices went up all the other prices went up and our quote
from last year for the road is probably out of date now. He will get a new quote.
He wants to set aside some of the operational monies to set up an eating place for the
children in one of the classrooms to make it a lunchroom.
It was 5AM Father’s time when he called, but he sounded in good spirits and said his health
has been very good. Lucy is have a celebration to name her baby soon. Her husband asked
Father if they could name the baby after him so the baby’s name will be Paul Agyeman-Duah
Mensah and they will probably call him “Father Paul”!
